LIKE everyone under the age of 56 James Wharton, the MP who introduced yesterday's Referendum Bill, has never been given a say on Britain's membership of the European Union. It was just decided somewhere that we would become part of a superstate and the British people never got the memo.

 

The Tories are embracing Euro-scepticism.

 

The Stockton South MP is just 29, at the other end of the age range 81-year-old Labour MP Dennis Skinner told Parliament during yesterday's thinly attended debate that, if only the Tories had listened to him in the Seventies, they could have saved us all a lot of trouble.


The Beast of Bolsover was right. Although Labour has now got itself in a muddle over the issue the Europe delusion was never about Left v Right but about the elite v the rest.

 

Long ago technocrats decided that, in order for Europe to avoid another war and to give us more weight in the world, national sovereignty and identity must disappear. Because it was a top-down project it was always an antidemocratic one, as the Greeks and Italians learned in 2011 when Brussels effectively removed their governments.

 

The elite was helped by a conformist and pliant media so that when Denmark held its euro currency referendum in 2002 every single major party and newspaper urged the people to say yes. And still they said no.

An Irish friend told me how, in his mid-20s and working in Brussels for an institution he had always been told was inevitable and good, he began to read British newspapers and was astonished to see sane, sensible people making rational arguments not just against closer European integration but the European Union itself. He had never seen, heard or read anyone in his country voice such things.

 

We are lucky in Britain to have a difficult and awkward press, one full of opinionated people who dislike consensus. This newspaper should blow its own trumpet for the Daily Express has consistently been anti-EU and since November 2010 has campaigned relentlessly for a referendum. It is just as well, for like elsewhere in Europe we've had two decades of parliamentary consensus on the subject, despite the British people having never wanted union. According to Christopher Booker and Richard North's The Great Deception, polls showed that only 15 per cent of people in the early Seventies wished to join the Common Market and three in five were opposed.

Funnily enough, as we are always told that the Tories should "not bang on about Europe", it did not even feature among the top 12 issues of concern in 1970. We just had no interest in joining and it should never have been an issue, it certainly wouldn't have been had we been told about what the Common Market would turn into. Despite the 1970 Tory manifesto promising only "to negotiate, no more, no less", within two weeks Edward Heath was in Brussels opening talks to join at any price (and we got a rotten one).

A small number of powerful people can scare the rest of society into believing their own eyes are lying to them, which is why the story of the Emperor's New Clothes has always resonated.

In the case of the European dream the experts with their grand theories of postnationhood were disastrously wrong. The public, with the wisdom of the crowd and of the ages, saw a utopian project motivated by a mix of fantasy and greed. And this despite the fact that in the Nineties, when the euro was being launched, the BBC treated Euroscepticism as essentially a sort of mental illness.

 

But then a number of things changed: as immigration developed into an issue of concern it became clear that we couldn't control our borders without leaving the EU.

Meanwhile the euro currency crisis graphically exposed the failings of the system. A political elite will continue to ignore popular concerns and the evidence so long as the changes are gradual but catastrophic decline cannot be brushed off.

With Greece becoming the first country to go from being a developed nation to an "emerging" one - though "submerging" may be more accurate - it became more difficult to argue that the European project is "inevitable".

 

Political deceits held together by taboo start falling apart very quickly once momentum builds up against them. Euro-sceptics have become more vocal while the stunning rise of Ukip has forced the issue. It doesn't matter that there remains a hard-core of Euro-enthusiasts because without wider support they are nothing more than an eccentric historical curiosity, like Jacobite supporters.


The Tories are embracing Euro-scepticism and even if public opinion has dragged them to the exit like a reluctant drunk at a party that's more than can be said of Nick Clegg and Ed Miliband, who have an even bigger problem.

While the Lib Dem and Labour elites may be averse to Euro-scepticism huge swathes of Labour voters in particular are not. Rather than listening to them Labour is now proposing a European "wish list" to take to Brussels, which will include special commissioners to look at joblessness (mostly caused by the euro) and reform of immigration.

 

They may as well put that list in an envelope and post it to Father Christmas for all the good it will do. It all smacks of desperation but then they know that they can no longer ignore or laugh at Euro-sceptics any more, they can only fight us. And we will win.

“V For Vendetta,” a film that portrays evil in a futuristic England as a proxy for the evil that exists today in America, ends with the defeat of evil. But this is a movie in which the hero has super powers. If you have not seen this film, you should watch it. It might wake you up and give you courage. The excerpts below show that, at least among some filmmakers, the desire for liberty still exists.

Whether the desire for liberty exists in America remains to be seen. If Americans can overcome their gullibility, their lifelong brainwashing, their propensity to believe every lie that “their” government tells them, and if Americans can escape the Matrix in which they live, they can reestablish the morality, justice, peace, freedom, and liberty that “their” government has taken from them. It is not impossible for Americans to again stand with uplifted heads. They only have to recognize that “their” government is the enemy of truth, justice, human rights and life itself.

Can mere ordinary Americans triumph over the evil that is “their” government without the aid of a superhero? If ideas are strong enough and Americans can comprehend them, good can prevail over the evil that is concentrated in Washington. What stands between the American people and their comprehension of evil is their gullibility. If good fails in its battle with Washington’s evil, our future is a boot stamping on the human face forever.

If you, an American, living in superpower America lack the courage to stand up to the evil that is “your” government, perhaps the courage of Edward Snowden, Bradley Manning, Julian Assange, and tiny Ecuador will give you heart.

A US senator from New Jersey, Robert Menendez, the Democratic chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told the Ecuadoran government that he would block the import of vegetables and flowers from Ecuador if Ecuador gives asylum to Edward Snowden. The cost to Ecuador would be one billion dollars in lost revenues.

Menendez’s statement–”Our government will not reward countries for bad behavior”–is ironic. It equates bad behavior with protecting a truth-teller and good behavior with betraying a truth-teller. Menendez’s statement is also a lie. The US government only rewards bad behavior. The US government consistently rewards those who conspire against the elected governments of their own countries, setting them up as dictators when Washington overthrows the elected governments.

Menendez’s threat did not work, but the senator did succeed in delivering yet another humiliating blow to Washington’s prestige. The Ecuadoran President, Rafael Correa, beat Menendez to the punch and cancelled the trade pact with the US on the grounds that the pact was a threat to the sovereignty (sjįlfstęši) of Ecuador and to moral principles and was being used by Washington to blackmail Ecuador. “Ecuador doesn’t accept pressure or threats from anyone,” added Communications Secretary Fernando Alvarado who then offered Washington foreign aid to provide human rights training to combat torture, illegal executions and attacks on peoples’ privacy.

Washington, exposed with its hand in the cookie jar devouring the privacy of the entire world and prevented by its hubris from acknowledging its illegal behavior and apologizing, has so mishandled the Snowden affair that Washington has done far more damage to itself than occurred from Snowden’s revelations. Washington has proven conclusively that it has no respect for anyone’s human rights, that it has no respect for any country’s sovereignty (sjįlfstęši), that it has no respect for any moral principles, especially those it most often mouths, and that it relies on coercion and violence alone. The rest of the world now knows who its enemy is.

Washington’s presstitutes, by helping Washington demonize Snowden, Glenn Greenwald, Manning, Assange, and Ecuador, have demonstrated to the world that the US media is devoid of integrity and that nothing it reports can be believed. The US print and TV media and NPR comprise a ministry of propaganda for Washington’s immoral agendas.

On June 24, the Stasi State’s favorite whore, the Washington Post, denounced three times democratically-elected Rafael Correa as “the autocratic leader of tiny, impoverished Ecuador,” without realizing that the editorial not only demonstrated the Washington Post’s lack of any ethics whatsoever but also showed the entire world that if “tiny, impoverished Ecuador” can stand up to Washington’s threats, so can the rest of the world.

President Correa replied that the Washington Post “managed to focus attention on Snowden and on the ‘wicked’ countries that support him, making us forget the terrible things against the US people and the whole world that he denounced.” Correa added that Washington’s “world order isn’t only unjust, it’s immoral.”

The reason Washington hates Correa has nothing to do with Snowden. That Ecuador is considering asylum for Snowden is just an excuse. Correa is hated, because in the second year of his first term he repudiated the $3 billion dollar foreign debt that corrupt and despotic prior regimes had been paid to contract with international finance. Correa’s default threat forced the international financial gangsters to write down the debt by 60 percent.

Washington also hates Correa because he has been successful in reducing the high rates of poverty in Ecuador, thus building public support that makes if difficult for Washington to overthrow him from within.

Yet another reason Washington hates Correa is because he took steps against the multinational oil companies’ exploitation of Ecuador’s oil resources and limited the amount of offshore deposits in the country’s banks in order to block Washington’s ability to destabilize Ecuador’s financial system.

Washington also hates Correa for refusing to renew Washington’s lease of the air base in Manta.

Essentially, Correa has fought to take control of Ecuador’s government, media and national resources out of Washington’s hands and the hands of the small rich elite allied with Washington. It is a David vs. Goliath story.

In other words, Correa, like Venezuela’s Chevez, is the rare foreign leader who represents the interests of his own country instead of Washington’s interest.

Washington uses the various corrupt NGOs and the puppet government in Colombia as weapons against Correa and the Ecuadoran government. Many believe that it is only a matter of time before Washington succeeds in assassinating Correa.

American patriots, who feel that they should be on “their” government’s side regardless of the facts, would do well to remember what true patriotism is. For Americans, patriotism has always meant allegiance to the Constitution, not to the government. The oath is to defend the Constitution against enemies domestic and foreign.

The Bush and Obama regimes have proven themselves to be the Constitution’s worst enemies. It is not possible for a true patriot to support a government that destroys the Constitution. The United States is the Constitution. Our country is not the Obama regime, the Bush regime, or some other administration. Our country is the Constitution. The Constitution is our country.

Beyond obligations to one’s own country, all humans have a responsibility to human life itself. Washington’s puppet states, such as the NATO countries, Japan, and Colombia, by providing cover and support for Washington’s aggression are enabling Washington to drive the world into World War III.

The temptation of Washington’s money easily overwhelms weak characters such as Tony Blair and David Cameron. But the governments of NATO countries and other accommodating states are not only selling out their own peoples by supporting Washington’s wars of aggression, they are selling out humanity. Washington’s hubris and arrogance grow as Washington bumps off country after country. Sooner or later Russia and China, will realize that they themselves are targets and will draw firmer lines. Arrogance will prevent Washington from acknowledging the lines, and the final war will be launched.

Washington’s hegemonic impulse is driving the world to destruction. The peoples of the world should realize this and force their governments to stop enabling Washington’s aggression.

Till riksrätten hör presidenten i högsta domstolen som ordförande samt presidenten i högsta förvaltningsdomstolen och de tre till tjänsteåren äldsta hovrättspresidenterna samt fem ledamöter som riksdagen väljer för ett fyra års mandat.

Närmare bestämmelser om riksrättens sammansättning, domföra medlemsantal och verksamhet utfärdas genom lag.

101 §  High Court of Impeachment.

The High Court of Impeachment deals with charges brought against a member of the Government, the Chancellor of Justice, the Parliamentary Ombudsman or a member of the Supreme Court or the Supreme Administrative Court for unlawful conduct in office. The Court of Impeachment deals also with the charges referred to in section 113 below.

The High Court of Impeachment consists of the President of the Supreme Court, presiding, and the President of the Supreme Administrative Court, the three most senior-ranking Presidents of the Courts of Appeal and five members elected by the Parliament for a term of four years.

More detailed provisions on the composition, quorum and procedure of the Court of Impeachment are laid down by an Act.

113 §  Presidentens straffrättsliga ansvar.

Om justitiekanslern, justitieombudsmannen eller statsrådet anser att republikens president har gjort sig skyldig till landsförräderibrott, högförräderibrott eller brott mot mänskligheten, skall detta meddelas riksdagen. Om riksdagen då med tre fjärdedelar av de avgivna rösterna beslutar att åtal skall väckas, skall riksåklagaren utföra åtal vid riksrätten och presidenten under tiden avhålla sig från ämbetsutövning. I andra fall får åtal inte väckas mot presidenten med anledning av en ämbetsåtgärd.

113 §  Criminal liability of the President of the Republic.

If the Chancellor of Justice, the Ombudsman or the Government deem that the President of the Republic is guilty of treason or high treason, or a crime against humanity, the matter shall be communicated to the Parliament. In this event, if the Parliament, by three fourths of the votes cast, decides that charges are to be brought, the Prosecutor-General shall prosecute the President in the High Court of Impeachment and the President shall abstain from office for the duration of the proceedings. In other cases, no charges shall be brought for the official acts of the President.

114 §  Åtal mot minister.

Åtal mot en medlem av statsrådet för lagstridigt förfarande i ämbetet behandlas i riksrätten enligt vad som närmare bestäms genom lag.

Beslut om väckande av åtal fattas av riksdagen sedan grundlagsutskottet tagit ställning till lagligheten av en ministers ämbetsåtgärd. Före beslutet skall riksdagen bereda medlemmen av statsrådet tillfälle att avge förklaring. När utskottet behandlar ärendet skall utskottet vara fulltaligt.

Åtal mot en medlem av statsrådet utförs av riksåklagaren.

114 §  Prosecution of Ministers.

A charge against a Member of the Government for unlawful conduct in office is heard by the High Court of Impeachment, as provided in more detail by an Act.

The decision to bring a charge is made by the Parliament, after having obtained an opinion from the Constitutional Law Committee concerning the unlawfulness of the actions of the Minister. Before the Parliament decides to bring charges or not it shall allow the Minister an opportunity to give an explanation. When considering a matter of this kind the Committee shall have a quorum when all of its members are present.

A Member of the Government is prosecuted by the Prosecutor-General.

118 §  Ansvar för ämbetsåtgärder.

En tjänsteman svarar för att hans eller hennes ämbetsåtgärder är lagliga. Tjänstemannen svarar också för sådana beslut i ett kollegialt organ som tjänstemannen i egenskap av medlem av organet har biträtt.

En föredragande som inte har reserverat sig mot beslutet svarar för det som har beslutats på föredragningen.

Var och en som har lidit rättskränkning eller skada till följd av en lagstridig åtgärd eller försummelse av en tjänsteman eller någon som sköter ett offentligt uppdrag har, enligt vad som bestäms genom lag, rätt att yrka att denne döms till straff samt kräva skadestånd av det offentliga samfundet eller av tjänstemannen eller den som sköter det offentliga uppdraget. Här avsedd åtalsrätt föreligger emellertid inte, om åtalet enligt grundlagen skall behandlas i riksrätten. (4.11.2011/1112)

118 §  Official accountability.

A civil servant is responsible for the lawfulness of his or her official actions. He or she is also responsible for a decision made by an official multi-member body that he or she has supported as one of its members.

A rapporteur shall be responsible for a decision made upon his or her presentation, unless he or she has filed an objection to the decision.

Everyone who has suffered a violation of his or her rights or sustained loss through an unlawful act or omission by a civil servant or other person performing a public task shall have the right to request that the civil servant or other person in charge of a public task be sentenced to a punishment and that the public organisation, official or other person in charge of a public task be held liable for damages, as provided by an Act. However, there is no such right to bring charges, if, under the Constitution, the charges are to be heard by the High Court of Impeachment. (1112/2011, entry into force 1.3.2012).

Eftir aš Ķslendingar stašfestu andstöšu sķna viš ESB ķ Alžingiskosningunum 27. aprķl 2013, vekur furšu, aš innlimunar-nefndin skuli ennžį starfa.
